In the winter of 2010, brothers John and Tom Rieple, purchased the historic fishing float below Dresback lock and dam #7 near LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Through past years of fishing the Mississippi river we knew the location of the fishing float was an incredible fishery. However, we both realized that to bring a quality experience to our customers, the historic fishing float would need to be rebuilt.
The rebuilding process began with finding a quality dock manufacturer. Merco marine of Wellsburg, WV fit that description and after a factory tour and final plans the docks were ordered and scheduled for shipping to be coordinated with the spring ice melt.
Next, John and Tom went through over 100 hours each of training to become Coast Guard certified captains as well as CPR and first aid certified. We can’t thank Captain Rudy and Captain Ron of 3B’s Captain’s school and Terry Niebeling of the LaCrescent Fire Department enough for their excellent instruction.
In March of 2010, the long awaited arrival of spring was here, and with the cooperation of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers, the construction process began.
The construction consisted of building 220 feet of dock that is 16 feet wide and building a 16×30 building. The dock is entirely enclosed with a 41 inch leaning rail and has 24 sections of 32 inch cutouts to provide handicapped and children friendly access. The building is constructed with cedar siding, knotty pine interior and has many windows to provide our customers a great place to relax. All the building materials for the docks and building were provided by Beaver Builders Supply of Holmen, WI and are the best quality.
Opening day was April 10, 2010 and the fishing quality of this historic location will never stop amazing us. We would like to welcome all of you to come and experience with us this incredible fishery.
